Nova Scotia Introduces Canadian Adult Education Credential

Nova Scotia introduces the CAEC, the latest credential and which will replace the older version of GED certificate as the highest adult education credential in the province. It has been developed following an upgraded renewed economic research, and then transformed demands of workforce development.

The digital CAEC is available in both official languages, with accommodations for those who require it. “I wish to congratulate adult learners who have opted to attain their high school diploma or equivalent,” said Labour, Skills and Immigration Minister Jill Balser. “This is an important step forward, and we understand that learning pathways look different for everyone.”. We take pride in our program that reflects diversity in wider cultural perspectives, yet meets the needs of industries in assessment. CAEC consists of five tests meant to evaluate the competence in reading and writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. Tests have been designed to bring opportunities before candidates to demonstrate their skills in communication, information processing, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

This testing series of GED was twenty years old. Pearson Vue has recently announced its retirement in GED because it’s based on outdated technology no longer supported.

Those interested in achieving the new adult education credential are invited to contact one of the providers from the Nova Scotia School for Adult Learning to develop an individualized plan. In addition, pass scores from the 2002 GED will be put toward the new CAEC for three years, ending in May 2027. The CAEC test will be $30, which is a fee the Province has agreed to cover.

This initiative represents one of the attempts by Nova Scotia to improve educational opportunities for adult learners and its intent to change with the changing tides of workforce requirements.
