Glasgow has announced the appointment of Mr. John McGhee as the city’s Interim Executive Director of Education following a successful interview process. Mr. McGhee, who is currently the headteacher at St Andrew’s Secondary School, will take up the post immediately.
In his new role, he will oversee education services across Glasgow, including almost 300 early years, primary, and secondary schools. The permanent Executive Director position will be advertised in the near future.
Susanne Millar, Glasgow’s Chief Executive, welcomed the appointment, saying, “John has worked in the city for many years and is passionate about the learning and teaching of Glasgow’s children and young people.
With over 30 years’ experience in education, he brings a proven track record of leadership and a commitment to building on the successes of previous education directors.”
Mr. McGhee said he is excited to begin his role as Interim Director of Education in Glasgow. He added that he looks forward to supporting every child and young person in the city to succeed and reach their potential.
He said he will work with schools, families and the community to improve learning and make sure every child feels welcome and can do their best.
