Background
Andersen Iberia has announced the launch of Fundación Andersen Iberia, a new organisation dedicated to promoting equal educational opportunities across Spain and Portugal. Based on Velázquez Street in Madrid, the foundation will focus its work on five pillars: support for children, scientific and cultural initiatives, promotion of sport and health, collaboration with the third sector and volunteer programmes, and strengthening social inclusion through education for vulnerable groups.
According to managing partner and foundation chair José Vicente Morote, the new initiative reflects the firm’s long-standing humanistic values. The board of trustees includes senior leaders from Andersen, among them executive partner Ignacio Aparicio, senior partner Javier Mata, director Ana Teresa Martínez, partner Juan Ignacio Alonso, of counsel Miguel Gordillo, and partner Elena Martínez. The foundation will be managed by Fernando de Rasche, counsel at Andersen.
The idea for the foundation grew out of Andersen’s response to the devastating DANA storm of 2024. The firm’s Valencia office, staffed by around 120 professionals, was among the affected areas. “When part of your own team faces such a severe situation, you feel compelled to take action, not only for them, but for the community around you,” Morote said.
Following this first wave of support provided directly by Andersen Iberia, the company decided to formalise its social commitment. One of the foundation’s first actions was offering financial assistance to four schools in Valencia damaged by the storm, helping improve their learning environments and ensuring the aid produced a meaningful impact.
Looking ahead, Fundación Andersen Iberia is exploring the formation of an advisory council made up of respected figures from the academic, cultural, professional and social sectors. This council would help guide the foundation’s long-term strategy and ensure projects are selected with fairness, rigour and social relevance.
The foundation plans to extend its initiatives to every city in Spain and Portugal where Andersen is present. “We are starting our work in Valencia, but we are already preparing an action plan for the rest of the cities in which we operate. We firmly believe that education has the power to transform lives and create more equal societies,” Morote added.
